Hope Abounds Collective

Welcome to this survivorship-focused wellness and encouragement space. Walking in the woods was healing to me on the hard, healing, and hopeful days. For years. On paths mowed in the peaceful woods by my husband. May you find such a beautiful place to walk on your healing journey. My goal is to offer faith-focused encouragement and resources supporting women navigating life after cancer and serious illness. Like me. Let's walk!

God makes all things new from Isaiah 43:19

Old Things Made New

July 14, 20262 min read

Yesterday morning I took a very long walk to work. Sunday is a "work day" for me as the church secretary, and bonus, we live a stone's throw away from the church. You will almost miss it driving by; our small white house with cheerful light blue trim sits up from the busy road with a large maple tree shading a cute front porch with three hanging baskets and four comfy chairs. Perfect for morning coffee or for the little ones to play.

Over the past year a lot of unbelievable transformation has taken place. The house had good "bones" and a solid foundation, but some things had fallen into great disrepair over time due to some unforeseen circumstances.

When my husband and I started looking seriously at this little house about a year ago, his first response was, "NO way. It's too small and needs way too much work." Truth be told, the house had a lot wrong and most people saw the problems instead of the possibilities.

Over the course of a few months we kept talking, looking, and feeling like God was leading us to look at the structure with new eyes. I'm so very glad we did.

Today, this is a cozy peaceful place with room enough for our kids and their families to hang out. We even see some wildlife passing through occasionally. When God is in the plan, and we are open to his purposes, even rough, unwanted places in need of help can become unexpected havens.

I think our lives are like that sometimes in the places no one sees but our God. What has been broken through no fault of my own and sometimes completely through my wrong choices has become whole thanks to my responding to the kindness, care, determination, and sacrifice of Jesus. He has made life worth living.

Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. - Isaiah 43:19 KJV

How is life for you today, my friend?

If you are in a place where you can't quite see past the rough edges and brokenness to a better plan, step back, take a breath, and ask the Master Builder to help you see your life through his kind, gentle, and holy eyes. He can make all things beautiful in his time. You just have to be willing to open the door.
